Londinium Consort is an emerging ensemble based in London. The ensemble is named after the ancient City of London, where old and new meet.
The focus of the consort is to connect early and contemporary music. It is comprised of recent graduates and current students from London’s world-renowned conservatoires, including The Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama: Anne Sutton (Soprano), Ben Finlay (Treble Viol), Emanuele Addis (Lute), Otto Hashmi (Recorder), Pablo Tejedor-Gutiérrez (Bass Viol).
The concert features music from the XVI-XVII century, specifically renaissance court and folk music. The programme embraces world-known historic figures from the British and Italian song tradition, including John Dowland, Claudio Monteverdi, and other lesser- known composers. It continues to the present day with a new composition written for the Londinium Consort by Italian living composer Antonino Abate: Shall I Compare Thee to a summer’s Day.
